Computer Basics
Welcome to Introduction to Computers
In this course you will learn what is a computer, how computers work, and how to use them. Computers are used for many reason, you can use them for work purposes, type documents, create presentations, browse the web, communication, and for entertainment such as playing games.
Lesson 1: What is Computers?
What is a Computer? A computer takes data as an input, stores the data in its memory, and uses it when needed. It process the data and produces the output. Here we have a desktop computer, there is a computer case, mouse, keyboard, and monitor. The computer case contains the components of the computer. These include motherboard, central processing unit (CPU), RAM, hard drive, and power supply.
Lesson 2:Hardware and Software
Two components any computer consists of are: Hardware and Software. Hardware is controlled through software instructions while software performs a specific task through computer hardware.
Lesson 3: What is an Operating System?
What is an Operating System? An operating system controls the hardware and other software on your computer. There are three most common operating systems.They include Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux. Operating systems all provide a user interface which are graphical user interface or command line.
Lesson 4: Learn How to Navigate Your Operating System - Windows
Learn basics of how to navigate your Windows operating system by starting off with your desktop and creating a new folder.
Lesson 5: Keyboard Shortcuts
In this lesson you will learn basic keyboard shortcuts that are useful when navigating your web browser and using word processors like Microsoft Word. They are another way to do a task you’d do with your mouse. Below is the list of basic keyboard shortcuts:
Lesson 6: Search Engines
In this lesson you will about Search Engines and how they work. Search engines have three tasks in common. These include 1. Crawling, 2. Indexing, and 3. Ranking. Examples of search engines are Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.
Conclusion
This course was designed to only teach basics in computers. Its intended for those who have no clue about computers and who wish to gain some knowledge on the basics of computers.
